Altos de Chavón is a replica of a sixteenth century Mediterranean villa above the Chavón River. It was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro and created by designer Roberto Coppa. Dominican artisans handmade the stone paths, iron decoration, furniture and buildings.

Its construction started in 1976 and was inaugurated in 1982 with a concert by Frank Sinatra in the amphitheatre. It is home to a Cultural Centre, the National Archaeological Museum and the "City of Artists".
