La Romana owes its beginnings to the natural harbour on its coast. Located some 100 kilometres from Santo Domingo, it is one of the most important tourist centres of the country. For nature lovers, it has a spectacular diving and fishing area, and also offers the opportunity to tour the Chavón River by boat.

Bayahibe, in the La Romana area, is a rural fishing community. It's a place where native flora, a white sandy beach, fishing, the local population and modern hospitality all come together.
