In Palenque, in the state of Chiapas, you can find one the country's leading Mayan archaeological complexes. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, the complex spreads over 17 km2 and has over 1,500 buildings.

The discoveries of the area reveal a profound artistic, scientific and mythological curiosity among the Mayan civilisation. The Temple of the Inscriptions and the Palace are the two most significant elements.
